Welcome Back Cougar Community!
It is with great excitement that I write to you in welcoming our students back for the 2021-22 school year! We all have experienced difficulties over this unprecedented time and a return to school will help bring back some normalcy for our students, staff and families.
State guidelines are that in K-12 schools masks must be worn indoors (this includes hallways and locker rooms at CHS) regardless of vaccination status. Our district and site will be following these guidelines. While outside it is highly recommended that students continue to wear their masks. Our cafeteria will be open for students to eat in, however seating will be limited due to spacing, students and staff are encouraged to eat outside. This year we are able to offer free meals to all students regardless of their family income!
If your child is not feeling well, please have them stay at home and call in the absence. By sending your student to school, you are attesting that your child is symptom free.
For those families that are not comfortable having their students return to in person learning, there is the Virtual Learning Academy option. This is a self directed online program that can be done from home. If interested please fill out the following interest form found online.
Your student’s schedule will be available online in their Aeries portal this Thursday, August 12.
The first day of school will be August 18th and all students will report to their 1st period class no later than 8:00 AM (unless there is a zero period on your student’s schedule). The students' first three days of school, (August 18-20) will be a bit different than normal as we will be having an alternative schedule for our Week of Welcome in which we do a series of school culture building activities. Our students will return to our traditional bell schedule Monday, August 23.
The expectations for students when we return to school are the same as they have been in the past. We expect our students to respect themselves, respect others and respect school property. Students will not be allowed to wear hats, have clothing that promotes violence, drugs, alcohol or anything else inappropriate, students are also not allowed to wear clothing that shows their midriffs. Cell phone use is not allowed in the classroom, but may be used during passing periods, brunch and lunch.
If your student has not returned their textbooks from previous years, they can drop them off from 9am to 3pm at the front office, Monday through Friday.
Once again, we are excited to welcome our students back to campus and to bring a sense of normalcy to our lives. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these difficult times!
